Fines

Overdue fines. The standard overdue fine accrues at the rate of 50 cents per day up to $100.00 per book plus a $15 processing fee if the item is declared lost. This fine is non-refundable.

Recall fines. The recall fine is $2.00 per day up to $50.00 and is non-refundable. Recalls are fined at a higher rate to encourage prompt return of items that are in high demand.

General Libraries fines accrued by Emory students are sent to the Bursar's Office. Fines accrued on Chemistry Library books are paid at the Woodruff Library Circulation Desk. Fines on books from another library must be paid at that Library's Circulation Desk.

Avoiding Overdue Fines

The Circulation Department's goal of no overdue books insures that books are available to all Emory borrowers. The following pointers will help you avoid accruing overdue fines.

  • At check-out, a receipt including the title of the circulating item(s) and due dates is printed and given to the borrower. Use the receipt as a reminder to plan your return of books.
  • Overdue and recall notices are sent at regular intervals. PLEASE READ THEM. If you have any questions, call us.
  • Don't lend your ID or library books to a friend. This is the number one factor leading to accrued fines. YOU are responsible for all items charged out on your ID card.
